Leading Educator Joins Park City School District as Superintendent
Dr. Ember Conley has Experience as a Teacher, Principal and Administrator

The Park City School Board has unanimously selected Dr. Ember Conley as its new Superintendent beginning July 1, 2013. She is currently Deputy Superintendent of the Maricopa Unified School District in Maricopa, Arizona.

The Park City School Board noted, “Dr. Conley has the experience that will benefit students, teachers and administrators of our district. Her student-centered focus on academic excellence and experience implementing the common core standards, teacher evaluation systems, data-driven decision making, along with her work on closing the achievement gap with diverse student populations, are precisely the attributes we sought in our comprehensive nation-wide search process.”

Teachers, administrators, parents and students were all involved in the rigorous candidate evaluation. There were nearly a dozen applicants the community based search committee assessed. Three finalists were examined during intensive individual 2-day visits to the district that included school visits, meetings with a variety of faculty and staff and interactive community forums.

The Board sincerely appreciates Tom VanGorder’s exemplary service to the District as Interim Superintendent while continuing to meet his responsibilities as Associate Superintendent of Student Services. VanGorder has expressed his support for Dr. Conley and will continue as a senior staff executive to the Superintendent.

From the desk of Dr. Einhorn—

Here we are at the end of the year already—hard to believe! Please be aware of the schedule for this week:
Monday, June 3rd—Trailside Talent Show—1:45 p.m. in the gym
Tuesday, June 4th—Trailblazer assembly—9:30 a.m.
Wednesday, June 5th—5th grade Movin’ On assembly—1:30 p.m. in the gym
Thursday, June 6th—last day for students—year-end video in the gym—9:00 a.m.
Clap out and early dismissal—12:20ish p.m.
Year-end PTO carnival—5:00-8:00 p.m.

I’ll be working through June 26th (in math training the 10th-14th) and will be back in the office August 1st. Please make sure you provide us with updates to your e-mail, address, and/or phone number prior to the end of this week. Teachers often send out information to parents in August, so please update contact information if needed.
Class lists are being finalized this week and next year’s teacher’s name will be on the report card. Placements have been carefully assigned, but parents who have a valid reason for disputing a child’s placement may see me in August. Please know that while we do place our small groups of students identified as gifted together in 4th and 5th grades, we have a much larger group of high-achieving bright students who are spread out in all of the classrooms. There is no “smart” classroom—they are all full of very capable students, and we have high expectations for our entire student population.

Monday, August 12-15—2nd/3rd grade Dual Immersion Camp
Friday, August 16—1st grade Dual Immersion Camp with picnic*
Thursday, August 22—Open House/Back-to-School, 3-5 p.m. for K-5*
Monday, August 26—First day of school, 1st-5th grades
Thursday, August 29th—First day of school, K
Tuesday, September 3—First day of school, PK

• indicates a change from previously announced information—no whole school picnic due to a district event for all teachers on August 23rd.
